Urmila Matondkar in an Interview told that she was not satisfied with the Congress Party performance because of which she decided to quit the party.

Urmila Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress party on 27 March 2019. She contested from Mumbai North constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, but lost. On 10th September 2019, she resigned from the party  before completing six months in the party, citing petty internal politics.

According to the reports, the actress said that she was not satisfied with the Congress party's performance, because of which she  take this step. The Actress Urmila Matondkar said that  "'My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a mean to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress,".

The actress in her debut as a politician had represented the party from North Mumbai constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party leader (BJP) Gopal Shetty.

Urmila Matondkar born on 4 February 1974, is an Indian film actress, television personality and  politician, primarily known for her work in Hindi cinema, in addition to Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu films. One of the most popular actresses, she is the recipient of numerous accolades, including a Filmfare Award, a Screen Award and a Nandi Award. 

In an interview with Rediff, Matondkar described her approach to acting: I have always tried to make life interesting for myself by doing different roles that connect with mainstream cinema with its offbeat counterpart. I have never made tall claims. I am an actresss, period. I want to do every kind of role with a reasonable amount of panache. I want to be a fair combination of style and substance. I guess I have been daring and lucky with my roles. I am not quite turning into a serious actress.
