Shashi Tharoor, Karti visit Tihar jail to meet P Chidambaram
P Chidambaram, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case and later was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 22.
On Monday, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor along with Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram visited Tihar jail in New Delhi to meet former Finance Minister P Chidambaram.
For the unaware, Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case money laundring case and later was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 22.
Meanwhile, He was arrested by the ED in the money laundering case on October 16 and is in judicial custody till November 27 under the order of a trial court. The CBI registered its case on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007, during Chidambaram was at the post of finance minister. Thereafter, the ED lodged a money-laundering case in this regard in the same year.
However, earlier, Chidambaram deprived of the Delhi high court the enforcement directorate's claim that he used the office of finance minister for personal gains and laundered the proceeds of crime.
