Jyotiraditya Scindia was working for Congress for 18 years, but on Tuesday, after Scindia met Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has ended his 18-year old association with the Congress, the party of his father.

Jyotiraditya Scindia was working for Congress for 18 years, but on Tuesday, after Scindia met Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has ended his 18-year old association with the Congress, the party of his father.

Immediately after the meeting with those two Scindia tweeted his resignation letter to Party president Sonia Gandhi talking about the “fresh start”. He also thanked Narendra Modhi and other BJP members for “welcoming him into their family”.

Scindia resigned along with 21 Madhya Pradesh MLAs endangered the Congress position in the region where it came to the power just 15 months ago. Following Scindia’s resignation 13 MLAs and 6 ministers also sent their resignation from Congress, bringing the political party into crisis. 

Congress had 120 MLAs in Madhya Pradesh, Four more then the minimum majority mark of 116, in the  Assembly consisting of 230-members. If all resigns are accepted, this will make easier for the BJP to stake claim to with 107 MLAs. 

 Scindia said after inducting into BJP, “Congress is no longer what it used to be, it is living denial”.

“I took this decision to be part of a country’s progress,” Scindia said while crediting Narendra Modhi for bringing in reforms in different sectors of the economy. 

“This is a joyous day for BJP and me personally”, said BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chauhan while welcoming former Congress member Jyotiraditya Scindia in BJP. Mr. Chauhan also defended Scindia’s decision to leave the Congress.

“Today I remember Rajmata Scindia,” Mr Chauhan said. “The entire family is with BJP, They have a tradition where politics is considered as a medium to serve people,” he further added.
