India vs South Africa, 1st Test Day 1: Rohit Sharma hits ton as India dominate rain-marred opening day
Rohit Sharma (115*) scored his fourth Test ton while Mayank Agarwal was unbeaten on 84 when rain forced to call off the day.
The play has been called off due to incessant rain on Day 1. Despite the entire ground being covered, any chance of a restart was not possible due to bad light in Visakhapatnam.
However, Rohit Sharma (115*) scored his fourth Test ton while Mayank Agarwal was unbeaten on 84 when rain forced to call off the day to the Umpires.
Rohit completed his 11th Test half-century towards the end of the session. After scoring his fourth Test ton Vice caption Rohit Sharma said, 'I was prepared for the past two years. At some stage, I was aware that I might have to open so I was ready'.
He added on by saying, 'Of course, opening the batting is a different ball game in red ball cricket. Mentally you have to train your mind more than anything else. At the same time, you do need to look into some technical aspects of batting, but more than that you have to challenge yourself mentally to play the new ball and take the game forward.
'Those are the things I kept in mind when I went out to bat. There was no confusion about how I wanted to approach the innings.'
However, Mayank Agarwal scored his fourth Test fifty in Vizag. And Rohit and Mayank became the first-ever Indian opening pair to score a 200+ run opening stand against South Africa.
