Gandhi Jayanti 2019: Celebrations scheduled to take place on October 2 in India and globally
This year its 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October.
Gandhi Jayanti is a national festival celebrated in India to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi born 2 October 1869. It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and it is one of the three national holidays of India. Mahatma Gandhi was a massive political figure in India who helped India get its independence in 1947. He began the civil disobedience and the Satyagraha movement, which were based on non-violence.
Meanwhile, The UN General Assembly announced on 15 June 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that 2 October will be celebrated as the International Day of NonViolence.

According to reports, this 2nd October is going to be memorable as Several hundred prisoners, who have not been convicted for corruption, murder, and rape will be released from jails across India on October 2 to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Meanwhile reports say, The number of prisoners to be released can be around 600 and the final list is being prepared by the Union Home Ministry in close coordination with state governments and the union territory administrations.
