In Karnataka there has been spiking in reporting a high number of deaths in the last three days. As many as 198 of Karnataka’s total 684 deaths, or about 30 per cent, have been reported since Friday (July 10).

The emergency meeting was held as most of the taluks have started to report Covid cases, due to which residents are scared . The meeting was chaired by the district-in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi. However, the deputy commissioner of the district will take a decision on district-wide lockdown after attending a meeting which will be convened by the Chief Minister.

An official in the district health department said Athani and Kagwad taluks are also witnessing a sudden surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, and after the meeting with the CM, the district administration will take a final call on closing the border with Maharashtra. He added that the DC is also expected to decide on restricting inter-district travel.

Further, he directed top officers to ensure that adequate personal protective gear is distributed to all police personnel deployed for duties in hospitals and burial grounds.

Karnataka has been reporting a high number of deaths in the last three days. On Sunday, the state reported 71 deaths. Only Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have been reported a comparable number of deaths every day.
