Congress leader Reshma Padekanur (35) and Former JD (S) district chairman of Vijayapura was found dead earlier on Friday under Kolhar bridge on the bank of Krishna River the body reportedly recovered. She suspected of being killed on Thursday night. Her hands and face were gunned down.
Kolhar police have registered a case in the regard suspecting the murder of Reshma Padekanura. The cause of death is yet to be determined by the police. Looking at her body's marks, however, police suspect murder.
Basavana Bagewadi Deputy Police Superintendent SU Maheshwargouda is currently undertaking a probe in the case, a report said.
"We are not at a stage of confirming whether it is a murder or suicide. We have beefed up the investigation, and her relatives have been summoned," has said the police officer.
She was last seen on Thursday night with one of the Maharashtra leaders belonging to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party in his car at around 12 PM, according to her relatives. Police also reportedly stated the husband of Reshma blamed Toufik by saying they had a dispute over property.
She has served as the JD (S) district president of the women's wing for over a couple of years before joining the Congress. Padekanura was defeated in the elections to the assembly in 2013. She had challenged on a JD (S) ticket from the constituency of the Devarahipparagi Assembly.
Her death shocked the political leaders and followers. She was pitied by the political leaders and demanded justice.
