Akshay Kumar and Rajnikanth's 2.0 flop in China?
India’s one of the blockbuster 2.0 is running in near-empty theatres in china.
According to reports, Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth 2.0, which was a blockbuster hit in India, is running to near-empty theatres in China. According to the report, 2.0 released in China on September 6 and within a week it collected mere Rs. 22 crore. Before 2.0, SS Rajamouli's Baahubali also failed to generate big numbers in China. Girish Johar said that the stories 'failed to resonate with the audience.' He added saying that "The anticipated collections are not there, and yes, both these films have underperformed despite getting a big push before their Chinese releases. The stories did not resonate with the Chinese audience. Both films had decent starts at the box-office, proving that there was an initial curiosity. But the interest level dwindled thereafter, as the local audience in China couldn't connect with the storylines."
However, Trade analyst Amod Mehra told "From what I gather, the Chinese prefer family dramas and suspense thrillers coming out of Bollywood, not costume dramas or FX films,".
Talking about movies many Indian movies have done good business in China, which include Secret Superstar, Dangal, Hindi Medium and AndhaDhun.
However, 2.0 is a standalone sequel to Enthiran (2010), featuring Rajinikanth is reprising the roles of Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson. The film follows the conflict between Chitti, the once dismantled humanoid robot, and Pakshi Rajan, a former ornithologist who seeks vengeance upon cell phone users to prevent avian population decline.
